A Weekend of Cycling Races

The Hakuba Valley was the place to be this past weekend as the resort hosted three cycling events of all different formats.
Tsugaike Kogen’s famous Tsugaike Hill Climb, back after an absence of two years. The grueling hill climb starts deep down the valley and finishes 17km later at the entrance to the Tsugaike Nature Park. 17km might not seem long but it is all uphill.

Hakuba also hosted a Gravel Fest over two days. On Saturday one loop of some of the valley’s off tarmac roads including a climb up to the top of Iwatake Mountain Resort. The loop took most of the sights of Hakuba, including the Olympic ski jump and rivers. We hope all the riders had a good sleep as Sunday saw the competitors do an option of one or two more loops. Most decided on two! Congratulations to the winner, an expat who certainly knows the course. In fact get in touch with him if you ever want to be guided around the cycle trails and roads of Hakuba. Not to be out done Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort was home to Iwatake Downhill Series. A lot of local and Nagano riders were out in full downhill gear. In the kids series, top 3 riders were all members of Hakuba Mountain Bike Club. Well done!
