Best Places in Hakuba for Fall Colors

If you live close to Hakuba, or happen to be visiting in late September or early to mid-October, you’re in luck, because it offers some of the best fall foliage around. Here’s where you can find the most gorgeous spots throughout Hakuba for viewing autumn colors.

Tsugaike Nature Park

Tsugaike Nature Park offers magnificent scenery year round, but autumn is when it’s arguably at its best. To enjoy some absolutely jaw-dropping fall colors and scenery, take the gondola and ropeway to 1900m, it makes an ideal vantage point for leaf peepers and draws photographers from across Japan to capture all of those gorgeous hues.

Happo-oike Pond

Go for a hike from the top of Happo-one Ski Area for about 90mins until you come to Happo-oike Pond. Here you can see the stunning autumn colors with the three jagged mountain peaks reflecting into the pond.

Iwatake Mountain Harbor

Maybe the best view in the resort. View the Hakuba peaks with a delicious coffee and a muffin from the popular mountain Harbor at the top of Iwatake Mountain Resort. Locals can ride the gondola for only 500yen! Dogs OK!

Hakuba Oide Suspension Bridge

From here you can either see the fall colors from a distance or later in the season enjoy the fall colors close up. Have a picnic on the grassy area, it’s a great spot to spend an afternoon.
